Outdoor Adventures: Nature at Its Best
Domaine Enchanteur ("Enchanting Estate")
Our first stop was Domaine Enchanteur, a breathtaking outdoor destination featuring nine miles of perfectly groomed skating trails winding through the forest. The experience is elevated by charming hot chocolate huts dotting the trails, offering the perfect spot to warm up and savor the moment. Adding to the magic, you can meet and feed friendly alpacas, deer, goats and sheep, making it a uniquely interactive experience. Unfortunately, unseasonably warm weather meant the trails were closed during our visit. Later, we learned that the season had officially ended. While we missed out this time, this enchanting place has firmly secured a spot on our future travel plans. And as a pivot, there are several outdoor skating areas throughout Quebec, if you want to take a spin and twirl on the ice!

Montmorency Falls
A short 15-minute drive from Quebec City, Montmorency Falls stands taller than Niagara Falls by 25 feet, showcasing a stunning display of nature's power. The falls’ mist creates a magical aura and its thunderous roar is a testament to its strength. In fact, there is a hydroelectric installation at the top of the falls which provides power for the region around Quebec city. Parc-de-la-chute Montmorency, the park surrounding the falls includes nature walks and gardens, gift shop, Manor and restaurant. While some trails were closed for safety reasons, we enjoyed taking the cable car to the lower park area, where pathways and walkways offered incredible views. We also enjoyed a walk across the suspension bridge above the falls, offering a unique vantage point of this natural wonder. The park is undergoing significant renovations, promising an even more spectacular experience for future visitors. If you love waterfalls, Montmorency Falls is a must-see.

The Charm of Old Quebec City
Winter Thrills and Treats
A highlight of Old Quebec in winter is the thrilling toboggan run, a nostalgic activity sure to bring out your inner child. Afterwards, indulge in a classic Quebecois treat: maple taffy rolled on ice. Watching the syrup transform into candy right before your eyes is a delightful experience for all ages. And for a hot beverage, I highly recommend finding a Caribou! I like to describe it as mulled wine with a kick! And, of course, there's the national treasure, Poutine! It was the first food we tried at Taverne Grande Alee ... it was so yummy and reminded me of Jersey Disco Fries from the Stateline Diner!

The Funicular Ride
Quebec City’s steep streets, often compared to San Francisco, can be quite the workout. The funicular is a great way to save your energy and enjoy breathtaking views as it transports you from the Upper Town to the Lower Town. Quick note: many people love to admire the grandeur of Le Chateau Frontenac, but currently, they are not letting anyone inside who is not a guest of the hotel. So for the time being, plan on enjoying it's gorgeous architecture from the outside.

European Vibes and Friendly Locals
Quebec City is a beautiful blend of old-world European charm and Canadian warmth. While French is the primary language, all the locals we encountered also speak English, making it easy to navigate if you don't speak French. However, out of respect, we started conversations with a polite “Bonjour!” and ask, “Parlez-vous Anglais?” (Do you speak English?) if needed.

Practical Tips for Visiting Quebec
- Language: While most people speak English, beginning interactions in French is polite and appreciated.
- Money: Canadian currency is colorful and fun to use! While you can pay in U.S. dollars at some locations, the exchange rate isn’t favorable. Credit cards offer the best exchange rates, but ATMs are also a good option.
- Etiquette: French Canadians tend to be reserved and value quiet, respectful interactions. Lower your voice, read the room and always be courteous.
- Weather: Be prepared for cold winters, and check the weather if you plan outdoor activities, as closures can occur due to conditions.
